DIY is an established Learning Disability Theatre Company.  Our devised performances challenge stereotypes, promote inclusion and celebrate creativity. DIY Theatre Company have been working with playwrights Aelish Michael and Danny Start to develop two original plays exploring the themes of communication and language.

IN OTHER WORDS will showcase extracts from two short plays:  Elli's Story and Don't call me Babe!

It's just a bench in the park. The one by the war memorial...
A homeless man sleeps on it…A street sweeper takes a break on it…A girl has drawn on it…Two scally's plan a burglary on it…A couple shag on it…A boxer skives on it…war veterans reminisce on it…An... angel and a ghost flirt on it...They have all sat on this bench at least once this year.
Before the end of the year, someone will die on it…

Description - Liz Lochhead's delightful, hilarious and touching play has a lot to say about finding love the second time around. Set in a charity shop, Susan copes with suddenly being single, a teenage daughter and a father in his second childhood. This popular theatre tackles a real contemporary issue with terrific theatrical energy and skill.
